6 Pre-conditions of Prayer

  1. Freedom from impurity
    The prayer of none amongst you would be accepted in a state of impurity until he performs ablution. (Muslim)
  2. To pray at the appointed time
    Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times. (An-Nisa: 103)
  3. To cover your awrah
    Males: ‘If the garment is large enough, wrap it round the body and if it is tight (too short) then use it as an Izar.’ (Bukhari)
    Females: “The Salat of a women who has reached the age of menstruation is not accepted without a Khimar”. (Tirmidhi)
  4. To purify the place of worship
    Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate. (Al Hajj: 26)
  5. To face the Qiblah
    “What is between the east and the west is Qiblah.” (Tirmidhi)
  6. Intention for that prayer
    The deeds are considered by the intentions. (Bukhari)
