3 things you didn’t know about Hafsah bint Umar Al Khataab

1. Jibril told the Prophet about Hafsah

“She is an often fasting and worshipping lady and she will be your wife in Paradise too.” [Mustadrak Al-Hakim 4/15]

2. She made a bed so soft that He slept through Tahajjud

On one night I thought if I folded the canvas into four and spread it, it would become softer. I folded it and spread it that way. In the morning Rasulullah asked: ‘What did you spread for me last night? I replied: ‘It was the same bed, I only folded it into four so that it may become softer’. Rasulullah said: ‘Leave it in its original form. Its softness deprived me of my prayers (tahajjud) at night’. [Shama’il Muhammadiyah]

3. The copies of the Qur’an was in her care

“Uthman sent a message to Hafsah (saying): ‘Send us the manuscripts so that we may copy them in the Musahif (then we shall return it to you.)’ So Hafsah sent the manuscripts to ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan.” (Tirmidhi)
